Even though everyone is susceptible to stress, people have different ways to manage it. Not every method works for everyone, but the important thing is that stress is kept under check because otherwise it has some serious side effects. Anywhere from headaches, sleeplessness, forgetfulness to infertility, heart disease and diabetes can be attributed to stress. Here are some tips to help you balance your life. Pick a few that work for you:
1. Go for a short walk – I know most of us do not like exercising but even a small amount can help reduce stress levels
2. Get a pet – having a pet has been known to reduce blood pressure and give you a feeling of overall wellness
3. Relax – sounds easy but some people have trouble with this one; meditate, take a bath, read or remove yourself from the stressful environment
4. Keep a journal – having an outlet to express your feelings is a good way to ease tension and map your progress
5. Listen to music – your favorite tunes can help elevate your moods quickly (and it can get you moving!)
6. Eat a well balanced diet – I know you know this one BUT it really is important to balance your life from the inside out (if you need help, talk to a nutritionist)
7. Take a vacation – need I say more?
8. Laugh – rent a movie, go to a comedy club or call up a friend who makes you smile; whatever it takes to get you to giggle can help release endorphins and reduce stress
9. Have positive messages posted around your environment to give your subconscious a boost
10. Talk to someone – sometimes we are so close to our problems that we cannot see objectively; talk to someone you trust such as a spouse, a friend, a relative or even a life coach who can help you gain some perspective
